Meet Carla Young, Editor & Publisher of MOMeo Magazine.com
For Carla Young, the decision to start her own business was never a matter of if, but a question when. So it was no surprise when she left the corporate world and launched her copywriting agency.
But little did she know that while building her business on a virtual work-at-home model, she was laying the foundation for her future role as a leader and inspiration to other mothers.
Like many new mothers, everything changed for Carla when she gave birth to her daughter. Not only was she learning how to be a mom, but she was learning the delicate art of balancing work and family.
Now coping with a severely compressed work schedule, she struggled to continue to build her business in only a fraction of the time. On top of an overloaded calendar, a mix up with the nanny agency left her without any childcare support. The personal toll was enormous.
‘Me-time’ simply didn’t exist. Forget shopping dates with girlfriends, leisurely lunches with her husband or gym time, Carla considered herself lucky when she managed to find time for the personal hygiene basics before her husband arrived home from work.
Stress and lack of sleep left her exhausted and overwhelmed. Something had to give and it wasn’t going to be her sanity. Determined to find the balance she needed, Carla built systems and processes to simplify both her work demands and family life.
She started by getting organized to the extreme. She then turned her attention to developing much-needed support mechanisms, using the right combination of people, systems and processes and technology to get more done in less time.
Following the principle that “If mommy isn’t happy, no one is happy”, Carla realized that all work and no play left her feeling empty. She started scheduling time for the important things, and focused on reigniting the spark in her relationship with her loving and very supportive husband.
After mom friends started asking how they too could enjoy her lifestyle, Carla saw an opportunity to help other moms start successful work-at-home businesses that fulfilled their need for creativity and their desire to stay connected to their families.
