Digital Life: Cloud Computing De-Mystified – Cloud Computing Explained in Simple Terms

If ever there was a catchword in the tech-o-sphere, it’s Cloud Computing. Cloud computer, cloud storage, iCloud. You’ve probably found yourself nodding knowingly when it comes up in conversation, but really thinking, what the heck is The Cloud?

Leave it to your Twirlfriends to de-mystify what is actually a very simple concept. Ever think to yourself, “I’d never trust my information to the cloud”? Well guess what – you’re doing it right now.

That’s right! Email, photo sharing sites, even our Twirls are stored off-site and in Cloud servers so not only will they not clog up your computer, but they’ll can also be accessed from anywhere.

“Is it safe?” Cloud providers take the security of your information very seriously. Think mega-military-grade encryption… just do your part and be smart about your passwords. (If you want some help with that check out our Lastpass Twirl).

For now watch this Twirl all about “The Cloud” and be the one waxing knowledgeable at your next social gathering.

Great post and professional video Carley. It’s surprising how many people are still ‘cloudy’ about the simple premise underscoring cloud computing. Those that are more digital savvy are now more concerned about “consolidating” the various cloud services each of us engage with. iCloud by Apple is perhaps the first ‘cloud aggregator’ (don’t know if I just invented that term) that actually is doing the heavy lifting in bringing all your storage units of valuable data under one roof. Who else is moving in that direction?
